We had a terrific time at our Halloween party! A big thanks to our wonderful room moms and all the other helpers that made this party possible. Check out the huge smiles during the mummy wrap relay!

Teddy Bear Day

Teddy Bear Day was a big hit. We read books about teddy bears, measured our bears with unifix cubes, wrote a class book introducing our bears, graphed gummy bears colors, and even wrote a fictional story about our bears coming to life! It was a fun but educational day!

Read to Self and Work on Writing

In our room, the students will have a choice between 5 literacy activities each day. We call these the Daily 5: Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, Read to Someone, and Listen to Reading. We have begun learning routines and building stamina for the first two.

Reading to yourself is way more fun if you use a whisper phone!

Writing has been particularly exciting since I put out stickers for the students to write stories about.

Pete the Cat

The class has gone absolutely crazy for Pete the Cat! There are 3 books in the series (so far) and we read them all this week.

Actually, we listened to the author read (and sing) and grooved along! If you'd like to listen to these at home you can download them by clicking {HERE.}

Welcome to the new year! In first grade we have science lab with Mr. Keedy. He read a story about the oak woodlands in the outdoor classroom. Then we got to go crayfishing and no one fell in the pond!

The students did a terrific job on their leprechaun traps. I was able to snap a few pics in between the craziness!

 Lucky the leprechaun visited and made quite a mess!
